BACK-TO-SCHOOL IN THE FALL TASKFORCE

SPECIAL BOARD MEETING WEDNESDAY, JULY 1ST

BACK TO SCHOOL IN THE FALL TASKFORCE PRESENTING

Dear Parents and Community,

Tomorrow evening, Wednesday, July 1st at 5:30 pm we are presenting the Back to School in the Fall Taskforce Plans to the Board of Education.  Over 155 members are on this Taskforce. We sought help from parents, as well, and they helped us with guiding questions.

We have been asked by our Governor to do what can be characterized as the impossible, while facing budget reductions in unprecedented times.

I would like to share with you a few points:

FIRST

Although our Core mission in the Paramount Unified School District is teaching and learning, our number one priority in this back to school effort is first and foremost the safety of our students and employees and then teaching and learning.

SECOND

Public schools in LA County have no choice but to plan to bring only half of the amount of students back on a given day due to the public safety protocols and guidelines by the LA County department of Public Health that we must follow.  That includes abiding by social distancing protocols.  Keeping students and adults 6 ft apart means that all students cannot fit into one classroom and on one bus at one time.  We have created various schedules for students.

THIRD

We are committed to providing the safest environment possible and to accommodate instruction equitably for all students. We respect and understand that some parents will not want to send their children back to school. You may keep you children enrolled in the school district.   We will offer an option for you. We respect and understand that some parents will have daycare needs and we are working with the City of Paramount to organize daycare opportunities for students when they are not in school.

FOURTH

We are not perfect, not one has done this before. So not everything will be perfect. But we are committed to trying to be perfect and providing the level of excellence that is expected and deserved by our wonderful students and community.
